BM Sürdürülebilir Kalkınma Amaçları

The Additive Manufacturing and Computational Design Research Group (AM&CD) is an innovative community dedicated to pioneering the future of engineering, design and tissue engineering through the lens of additive manufacturing (AM) technologies.

The sub-areas that form the core of AM&CD's research endeavours are:

Design for Additive Manufacturing (DfAM)

At AM&CD, we embrace AM's unique capabilities, including complexity at no additional cost, to innovate and push the boundaries of what is possible in design. Our DfAM research overcomes traditional manufacturing constraints, enabling the creation of complex geometries, customised parts and designs optimised for function rather than just manufacturability.

Lattice Structures

Our team specialises in conceptualising and creating complex lattice structures that are lightweight yet strong, taking full advantage of AM's ability to create complex geometries that are impossible to produce by conventional methods. These structures have a wide range of applications, from aerospace components to lightweight automotive parts, and offer superior performance with minimal material usage.

Scaffolding for Tissue Engineering

Capitalizing on the precision and versatility of AM, the group's tissue engineering scaffold research aims to produce structures that mimic the extracellular matrix and promote the growth of biological tissues. Our goal is to create biocompatible, degradable scaffolds that can be used for regenerative medicine, ultimately revolutionising the creation of artificial organs and tissues.

Finite Element Modeling for AM

AM&CD is at the forefront of integrating finite element modelling (FEM) with AM to predict and optimise the performance and structural integrity of printed parts. Our research ensures that components produced through AM meet desired specifications and performance criteria, reducing the need for physical prototyping and improving the overall efficiency of the design-to-production pipeline.

Design Optimisation

Our focus on design optimisation covers the entire process of creating a part, from conceptual design to final product. Using advanced optimisation algorithms, we aim to find the best solutions for weight reduction, material distribution, and cost efficiency while maintaining or improving the performance and function of parts.

Artificial Intelligence for Design

AM&CD is pioneering the use of artificial intelligence in design, combining computational design with meta-heuristic methodologies to push the boundaries of autonomous design systems. Our research involves the development of algorithms that can predict optimal designs, learn from data and even propose innovative solutions to complex engineering problems.
